Denfeld High School students have come to love the opportunity to stay after school Monday-Thursday until 5:30 with no objective other than to connect with each other and supportive adults at the Denfeld After School Happenings (DASH) program.
However, when schools closed for the pandemic a year ago, we were not able to provide this safe space for academic and social support in the building.
Our students shared that now more than ever they needed a quiet and safe place to get support in person for distance learning, so we got creative, partnering with LifeHouse to provide in-person DASH out of their new Imaginarium space downtown. Click here to hear about that partnership.
Last Thursday, our hybrid students finally returned for their first full day of in-person school since March of last year. It was an emotional and wonderful reunion, even with the addition of many new practices and masks.
Now that we are back in person, DASH is back in the building Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm like the good old days, but we've made it even better with the addition of our LifeHouse partnership.
Now, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, young people can meet with Jason Kennison, LifeHouse Education Case Manager, a licensed teacher, and risk-reduction youth worker. Jason provides our students a ton of resources through LifeHouse including gift card incentives on the spot for Denfeld students who come to meet with him at DASH.
Together with LifeHouse, the goal of DASH is to create a safe and accepting space after school hours where Denfeld students have the opportunity to partner with supportive adults to achieve their goals and reach their highest potential.
DASH is free and open to all Denfeld students including those who may not be currently enrolled but would like support. Click below to download the registration form, or drop in to check it out and pick up a form.
